STEP 1: OUTLINES
The first step in developing your aircraft scheme is rendering a wireframe image based on factory drawings. The wireframe image allows us to get a feel for the lines and shapes of the airframe.
Step 2: Shading
Next we will shade your aircraft so it reflects how light will fall on it in a natural environment. The aircraft gets a coat of “primer” just as it would at the paint shop.
Step 3: SCHEME
Now, after learning the lines and curves of the airframe, we work with you to develop your scheme. Whether you want a twist on the classic three stripes, a vintage military look, or a cutting-edge racing scheme, we can make it happen.
We will ask you a number of questions about your aircraft, its purpose, and your tastes to get a feel of what you want for your aircraft. We will develop several initial designs to work from, and we will interface with you to refine the elements that you like or don’t like into a single design. The process goes on until you are completely satisfied and we can provide as many design directions as you want up until it’s time to paint!
These are a handful of the designs that we have completed. Most of these have gone on to paint, though a few exist on paper only. So far, all our clientele has been in the Experimental category. We are very adept at working with homebuilders’ custom aircraft to achieve that personal look, but we are also very capable of the same results on any production aircraft.
RV-8 FASTBACK, TOM P.
Tom wanted a unique look for his custom fastback RV-8. Looking for a design that incorporated the classic shark mouth with a modern look, Tom chose an X-Scheme design.
RV-6, STEVE H.
Steve had already sketched out his ideas, and we helped bring his modern design to life. With sweeping curves and faded checkers, Steve’s excellently crafted RV-6 took Bronze Lindy Kit Champion at Oshkosh 2016.
RV-8, HANK M.
Hank came to us looking for a paint scheme for his beautiful RV-8. He knew exactly what he wanted in the scheme, so we were able to deliver Hank a fantastic military paint scheme to his specifications very quickly.
RV-4, AARON W.
Aaron came to us for some initial work, needed a bit of time to consider several of the designs, then returned for more design work very close to his paint date. X-Schemes accomplished a quick turnaround and finished the design to his liking in time for his RV-4 to be painted.
